Free Pattern: Transitions Sleeves


Transitions Sleeves are the perfect accessory for the transitions between seasons. Wear them pulled up above the elbows for elegance, or wear them slouched down towards your wrists for casual comfort.

The red sleeves are knit from Knit Picks Stroll Sock Yarn. The striped sleeves are knit from Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Sock Yarn. The pattern can be knit from less than 400yds of any fingering-weight yarn.

Yarn: 
Knit Picks Stroll Sock (50g/231yds), 2 balls
Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Sock (100g, 437yds), 1 skein
or substitute ~400yds of any fingering-weight yarn

Needles:
US3/3.25mm DPN (set of 4)
or substitute size for correct gauge

Materials:
yarn needle

Gauge:
8 stitches and 10 rows=1 inch/2.5cm

Abbreviations:
CO: Cast On
sts: stitches
k: knit
p: purl
kfb: knit into the front and back of the stitch
BO: bind off

Instructions:
CO 54sts evenly across 3 DPNs, join to work in the round

*k2, p1* to end of round for a total of 6 rounds

Knit all stitches for a total of 4 rounds

Turn work, slip the first stitch and purl across all stitches to work flat in stockinette

Continue to work flat for 1.5in/3.75cm, slipping the first stitch of each row, ending with a knit row

Rejoin to work in the round

Work in stockinette in the round (knitting all stitches) until sleeve measures 6in/15.25cm from cast-on edge

Work Increase Round:
      Needle 1: knit all stitches
      Needle 2: k1, kfb, k to last 2 sts on needle, kfb, k1
      Needle 3: knit all stitches

Knit 5 rounds

Work Increase Round

Knit 2 rounds

Work Increase Round

Continue to work Increase Rounds every third round until there are a total of 72 stitches

Work in stockinette for 5in/12.75cm

*k2, p1* to end of round for a total of 12 rounds

BO in pattern

Right and Left sleeves are identical; work second sleeve in the same way

Finishing:
Weave in ends and block
